Instant LinkedIn job alerts: how to get notified within minutes
You set up a LinkedIn job alert, and the email arrives the next morning. By then the job already has a hundred applicants. Here's why LinkedIn's alerts are slow, how to get the most out of them, and how to hear about a new job within a few minutes of it going up.
Set up LinkedIn's own alert properly
It's still worth having, as a backup:
-
Search with the exact filters you want
Keywords, location, remote or on-site, experience level. The alert sends whatever this search finds, so a tight search means fewer useless emails.
-
Turn on "Set alert"
At the top of the results, switch on Set alert (or Job alert).
-
Choose the fastest delivery
In your job alert settings, pick Daily rather than weekly, and turn on notifications in the LinkedIn app as well as email.
Why LinkedIn's alerts are slow
| Alert type | How fast |
|---|---|
| Weekly email | Up to 7 days late |
| Daily email | Up to a day late |
| App notification | Sometimes quick, often hours. LinkedIn decides when. |
| Checking the search yourself | As fast as you reload, if you remember to |
The first applicants usually come in during the first hour. A daily email almost guarantees you're not one of them. See how to see LinkedIn jobs posted in the last hour if you want to check by hand.
Get an alert within minutes
The only way to hear about a job a few minutes after it's posted is to check your search every few minutes. Doing that by hand all day isn't realistic. That's what Job Radar does for you:
-
Add EarlyApply to Chrome or Edge
It's free, with no account.
-
Open your LinkedIn job search
Search the way you normally would, with all your filters.
-
Click "Alert me"
Job Radar starts watching that search and checks it every 3 minutes (or less often, you choose). Allow desktop notifications when asked.
-
Get back to work
When a new job is posted, you get a desktop notification and a soft chime, even in other apps. Click it, read the job, apply.
Good to know
- Your computer has to be on. Job Radar runs in your own browser, not on a server. It keeps working while you use other tabs and apps.
- Only new jobs alert you. Jobs that were already there when you started, and old reposts, don't.
- It never applies for you. It tells you a job is there. You read it and apply yourself.
- It survives a restart. Close Chrome and open it again, and Job Radar picks your search back up.
Hear about the next job in minutes, not tomorrow
EarlyApply is a free Chrome and Edge extension for LinkedIn Jobs.
- Job Radar: a desktop alert when a new job matches your search
- One-click filters for jobs posted in the last 15 minutes to 12 hours
- Hides promoted, reposted and staffing-agency jobs
Questions
Why are my LinkedIn job alerts late?
LinkedIn collects new jobs and sends them in batches, usually as a daily or weekly email. App notifications can be faster, but LinkedIn decides when to send them, so a job can be hours old when you hear about it.
Can LinkedIn send job alerts instantly?
Not reliably. There is no "instant" option for job alerts. To hear about a job within minutes, something has to check your search every few minutes, such as a browser extension like EarlyApply's Job Radar.
Does Job Radar work when my computer is off?
No. Job Radar runs in your own Chrome or Edge, so the computer and browser need to be on. It keeps working while you use other apps or tabs.
Is checking LinkedIn every few minutes safe?
EarlyApply checks no faster than every 3 minutes, in your own LinkedIn tab, like reloading the page yourself. It never applies, clicks or sends messages for you.
